The United States of America is a federal republic consisting of 50 states and a federal district. Formed from 13 colonies fighting against the British, the United States rose to become a global superpower in the twentienth century. Following the 1989 asteroid impact, the USA found itself caught in an economic recession, which lasted until the early 2000's.
