The Board of Governors was the organization responsible for the operational oversight of the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Its primary duty consisted of hiring the Headmaster. It also had the power to remove the Headmaster if he was unfit for duty, and appoint a new one. The Board of Governors was created in 1846 to replace the Foundation. Lucius Malfoy (Death Eater) used this position against Albus Dumbledore, most notably persuading other governors to execute Buckbeak who was later rescued by Harry & Hermione using a time-turner.
