The USS New Samarkand (nicknamed "New Sam") was a Federation Starfleet São Paulo-class escort on active service in the early 25th century. In March 2411, New Samarkand was assigned to an attack wing led by USS Erbil, posted to a task force led by Commodore Tyria Sark. The ship took part in a confrontation with Jem'Hadar attack ships over Yarmta. (The War of the Masters: "A Good Compromise") In Pocket Books' continuity of Star Trek novels, the city of New Samarkand on Alpha Centauri III is the capital of the Alpha Centauri Concordium of Planets.
