The United States presidential election of 2020 was a contest between the incumbent President Jon Huntsman, the Republican candidate, and California Governor Kamala Harris, the Democratic candidate. Huntsman was helped by a strong economy from the Great Recession. Huntsman carried 40 of the 51 states, the strongest victory since George H.W. Bush's 1988 victory.In the national popular vote, Huntsman received 58.9% to Harris's 41.1%, making Huntsman the first candidate to surpass Reagan's popular vote in 1984.
