The RG1620X replaced the similar RG620X. Both have L.R. Baggs active piezo pickups in the bridge for acoustic-like sounds. The RG1620X features a basswood body bolted to a maple neck with a 24-fret rosewood fingerboard with dot position markers. Components include a double locking tremolo bridge, dual Ibanez Vintage humbucking pickups and a locking nut. The RG1620X was replaced in 2005 by the similar RG1820X, which has a separate tone control for the piezo.
