Tyler was born in 1946, in New York City. His father, Marcus J. Q. Tyler, was a New York property developer and millionaire. Tyler attended the exclusive, St Bernards Academy (1954 - 1964), and then Harvard (1964 - 1967) and Jefferson College (1967 - 1968). J.Q.T (as he was known) then took over a segment of his fathers business, extending the company to the east coast and Florida. Gradually J.Q.T moved the family's business from property developing to investment, investing heavily in shipping and gold stocks in the early 1970's. In 1985 he founded Fox News.
