An old standard for MIDI interface drivers once used on Apple computers. At the time it was developed (around 1990), Apple was making its first effort to standardize all types of MIDI hardware-to-software interfaces in the MacOS operating system; MIDI Manager was the first such standard of its kind. However, it was rapidly surpassed in features by Opcode’s OMS and MOTU’s FreeMIDI. Additionally, Apple ran into legal difficulties with supplying music-related software with its computers due to an old agreement with The Beatles (who once owned a label called Apple Records) over the use of the Apple trademark in the music industry. Apple soon abandoned further development of MIDI Manager, and most developers and users had migrated away from it by 1995.
