Garad was the chieftain of the Frostwolf Clan many years before the First War. He was killed in a battle against a group of ogres and a gronn shortly before Kil'jaeden convinced the orcs to make war against the draenei. He was succeeded as chieftain by his son, Durotan, who would be the only voice of dissent against the corruption of the orcish people. It is believed that the Mag'har stronghold of Garadar, located in the sacred lands of Nagrand, is named for him. This belief is lent credence by the fact that his mate, Geyah, is the leader of the Mag'har.
