The SL8 is a semi-automatic rifle manufactured by Heckler & Koch that chambers the 5.56x45mm NATO round. It is the civilian version of the G36 assault rifle. The SL8-2 was designed as a DMR (Designated Marksman Rifle) for the German military, but was later dropped. The SL8-2 is categorized as a sniper rifle in the Rainbow Six universe. The SL8-2 only appears in the Athena Sword expansion of Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six 3: Raven Shield.
