Chuck Heaton was one of the nominees for the "Sportswriter of the Year" Award. His big story that year was "Too Much Violence In Boxing" that he wrote for the Cleveland Plain Dealer. He was never seen in the series, only mentioned in the Season 1 episode entitled "Recovering Pessimist". This character was actually based on Patricia Heaton's real-life father Chuck Heaton.
