The reign of Hantei XXXVIII was marked largely by a lengthy period of peace in Rokugan. The Emperor managed to keep the Clans from warring excessively, though it had a toll on his health. His death at the hands of Bayushi Shoju in 1123, however, marked the beginning of one of the bloodiest periods known in Rokugani history.
