Brigadier General Robert Charles Tyler (1833-April 16, 1865) was a Confederate General. He is generally credited with being born in MD, although some claim he was born in Jonesborough, Tennessee. He served as an officer on William Walker's filibustering army. Prior to the war he helped organize the Knights of the Golden Circle. Tyler joined the Confederate Army as a Major in 1861 on Benjamin F. Cheatham's staff, and served as Lieutenant Colonel during the Battle of Shiloh. He served as a Colonel and Provost Marshal under Braxton Bragg in the Army of Tennessee. He lost a leg during the Battle of Missionary Ridge.
