A director's reel can be used to promote both a director's talent, as well as a specific film. If the director plans to promote themselves, the reel should contain clips from a variety of their work, edited together into a montage. If the director plans to promote a specific film, the reel should contain a montage of scenes from that reel, similar to an extended trailer.
