The I.Ae. 38 was designed under direction of German aircraft designer Reimar Horten (and based on the German Horten Ho VIII project). Its shoulder-wing swept, all metal design bore resemblance to Horten's other flying-wing designs as well as modern-day stealth aircraft such as the B-2 Spirit .
