When an item is unknown, it will appear as a question mark icon in your inventory. Each unknown item is worth a specific number of research points and requires energy to process. The amount of power required varies for each item. Accumulated research points can be used to unlock additional blueprint recipes. To access the Research Station user interface press "E" while looking at the research station. Higher tier projects require a multi-block structure called a Laboratory to complete research and unlock more complicated recipes.
