As the quests update, the objectives will update on the quest indicator. Tracking quests this way can be helpful. The current objectives will always be displayed as a reminder. If the Transparent Map (N) is turned on, quest mobs areas will display as a gray circle. And the Minimap will show a blue marker for quest NPCs.
