He played senior hockey with the Niagara Falls Cataracts and the Toronto British Consols from 1935 to 1937. From 1937 to 1939 he played mostly with the Harringay Greyhounds in Great Britain. From 1939 to 1942 McAndrew bounced between senior and minor pro ranks. The New York Americans sugned him as a free agent in February, 1941, and brought him up for seven games when he scored an assist. After serving in the Canadian military from 1942 to 1946, McAndrew played four more seasons (sitting out 1947-48) in the minors and seniors and retired in 1950.
