The "Inferno" was a large-scale event in the Marvel comics encompassing many of the mutant-based titles (X-Men, X-Factor etc) - the saga revolved around a full-scale demonic invasion of New York and the subsequent struggle to reclaim the city from the demons to prevent a literal "hell on Earth" scenario.
