A carouche is a vampire whose first kill is an animal, rather than a human being. Carouches then hunger only for that type of animal's blood, though any (even human) can sustain them, just as any other vampire. There seems to be a prejudice among true vampires against carouches as being a lower form of their kind. The term itself was first used in the episode Blind Faith, though the first appearance of a carouche had been in the earlier episode Black Buddha Pt. 2. Carouches also appear in the episode Fever.
