John Hill was a young man who, with great nervousness, stood up and addressed a meeting of the Salvation Army in September 1970. Encouraged by Major Parrett, he told the congregation he had been traumatised by the recent death of his friend Skinner in a road accident. The same thing had happened to his mum and dad when he was ten. He asked what the reason for living was. The Major told him that God is the reason and God is love. John's words had resonated with audience member Lucille Hewitt as her mother, Lizzie had died when she was also ten years old and she decided that she wanted to do some good for people in the world.
