The 1970 Motor Trend 500 was a Grand National (now Sprint Cup) - Grand National West (now West Series) combination event held at Riverside International Raceway on January 18, 1970. It was the season opener for both series. A.J. Foyt won his only race of the year, holding off Roger McCluskey by 3.5 seconds. Eventual season champ Bobby Isaac started off the year roughly, finishing 29th after an engine failure.
