The unnamed Girl called into the Corner Shop with two friends to buy ham barmcakes and were willing to wait while Renee Bradshaw made them up. Alf Roberts had been in for some minutes with a present for Renee which he had bought on a trip to London and was giving it to her with a stumbling proposal of marriage when he was interrupted, first by Rita Fairclough and then by the girl and her mates. Alf left the shop and the girl asked Renee if she was going to open the present. It turned out to be a perfume which the girl commented looked expensive.
