Lieutenant Bill Hixon was in security on board the USS Enterprise NCC-1701. He led the rescue party to save Captain James T. Kirk on the planet Anomaly. His full body armor, helmet, and Type I Ray Gun saved him from giant eagle attack. Later, he wandered off and the locals removed his ears, eyes, thumbs, tongue, genitalia, and nose. The change made him 'happy' and he remained on Anomaly when the Enterprise left. (TOS novel: Planet of Judgment)
