Botem Cavern is one of several refuge locations occupied by the X-nelians during the X-nelian War. After Dorns invasion in the X-nelian Mines, Dal-G relocated here. After completing her mission objectives, Samus enters the Botem Cavern to confront Dal-G and question his motives. In doing so, Samus urges Dal-G to come with her to meet Andra and discuss his lack of communication and progress with the Galactic Federation. Dal-G refuses and his motives become almost clear when he takes aim at Samus.
