The Ryūō clan is said to be descended from a powerful shinobi who lived among the dragons when he was young. Due to this their chakra is said to have contaminated his body and caused him to becomes more draconic in appearence. His sons, however, gained a hiden technique that would cause fame among the clan known as the Dragon Lord. With it the became prominent in Sunagakure and was considered a royal clan. Due to conflict between the clan head and his brother the clan was plunged into civil war drastically decreasing the clan's numbers. After Naien took over he was able to reunite the split clan and let peace fall on the group.
