"You Know That Thing Where", usually abbreviated to YKTTW, is used for spit-balling new tropes. You don't need to go through YKTTW at all but it's recommended. It is a tool that is here to help make a good article, not the "Committee To Approve Articles." It will help you catch some errors before they are made, give you a chance to get some wider perspective that may not have occurred to you, determine if your suggestion already has a page here, and get some good examples and perhaps a catchy name for the trope. That's it. If you're confident in your article, feel free to write it without going through YKTTW; if there's a problem, Wiki Magic will take care of it. The chances of making a good article do go way up for you, though, if you do take it through YKTTW.
