Howell Cobb (August 3, 1772 – May 26, 1818) was an American politician, farmer and soldier. Born in Granville County, North Carolina, Cobb later moved to Louisville, Georgia. From February 23, 1793, until January 31, 1806, Cobb served in various military positions in the United States Army including ensign and lieutenant in the Second Sub Legion and as captain in the Artillerists and Engineers. Cobb's great nephew and namesake Howell Cobb served as the Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives, Governor of Georgia, U.S. Secretary of the Treasury and Head of the Confederate States of America
