Transvestities have a long history of running rampant through much of medieval Romania and indeed most of the Balkans. However their highly "unique" fashion sense and habit of taking BDSM way too seriously led to a great deal of persecution which lasted well into the 20th century. The modern transvestites however, enjoy a higher level of inclusion in society thanks in part to the sexual revolution of the 1960s and the efforts of blood bank services.
