The Twelfth Division in the Gotei 13 was started over 1,000 years ago by Kirio Hikifune, the second youngest of the first generation of the Gotei 13. The current Captain is Kisuke Urahara, who retook his position upon Captain Mayuri Kurosutchi's death. The Twelfth Division is known for the Department of Research and Development Institute, which was created by Kisuke Urahara. The Lieutenant is Lisa Yadomaru.
