The Mattel Bonus car program began in 1995 along with the popular Segment Series of cars. The Bonus Cars, also later called Mystery Cars (not to be confused with peg hanging black opaque blister packs) were obtained only through mail order. The requirement was to purchase the complete segment series of cars and send the backing cards to Mattel. In return you received one of the exclusively decorated cars .
