The hara cat was an animal native to the planet Bajor. During the Cardassian Occupation, Kira Nerys, while on long-range reconnaissance in the Bestri Woods, thought she saw a Cardassian soldier. She opened fire, only to find out that she killed a mother hara cat that was nursing her young. (DS9: "Second Skin")
