Sultana Kawkab al-Sharq (lit. Star of the East) was the ruler of Vanna after killing the reigning Sultana Meher al-Saif in a duel during the events of the Rose of the Desert. She was connected to the Clergy of Nergal who had plans for the Tronin Desert and who interfered with Sarquil politics to reach their goals. Kawkab's reign lasted only for a few years but she left her mark on the desert, enslaving the last resisting desert elves and beginning the first steps of forming what would be known as the Sultanate of Karaganda. Kawkab died in a duel against Razia al-Saif who returned the throne of Vanna to the House of Saif.
