When Knuckles the Echidna was brought to Backwater City having been accused of trying to kill an Apterix rancher named Rooster, Deputy Krouch agreed to put Knuckles in the town jail cell until the Sheriff got back from out of town. In fact, Boss Krouch has organised the attempt on Rooster's life. When Boss Krouch had some of his men take Knuckles out to be lynched, Deputy Krouch sat back and allowed them to do it, even telling Knuckles that in Backwater "we make our own laws!" Fortunately, the real Sheriff returned just in time to stop the lynching, and he immediately fired Krouch for being "a disgrace" to the Deputy's badge. Sitting in the sand, Krouch whined that he would tell his pa, only for the Sheriff to tell him that "Crying to your pa is about all your good for!"
