Maas was a large talking snake in service to Queen Salmissra. When attempting to remove Garion's amulet, he was struck dead by a bolt of power. Maas was brought back to life by Issa to testify that the Salmissra currently ruling Nyissa was not the original beloved of the God, but one of a long line of replacements.
