The Sauropod has several smaller versions of itself attached to it called shuttles, and these are used by Teggs and his crew to land on other planets while leaving the main ship in orbit. Each shuttle contains an emergency supply of ferns for long flights. The fastest of the Sauropod's shuttles is Shuttle Alpha, which was first referred to in The Terror-Bird Trap.
