Elections to the United States Senate are scheduled to be held on November 2, 2010, for 36 of the 100 seats in the United States Senate. A special election for a 37th seat was held in Massachusetts on January 19, 2010, for a term that ends in January 2013. After the 2008 elections and their subsequent events, the Senate is composed of 58 Democrats, 41 Republicans, and one independent who caucus with the Democrats. Of the remaining seats currently up for election in 2010, 19 are held by Democrats (6 of whom are retiring) and 17 are held by Republicans (7 of whom are retiring).
