This is a list of the Sexxô and Quampaku of Japan. Initially, the only difference in practical terms between sexxô; and quampaku is whether the Emperor, the nominal ruler, is of age or not. Sexxô rules in the name of an underage Emperor, Quampaku in the name of an adult Emperor. Sexxô and Quampaku are collectively referred to as Sekquan. A retired Quampaku or Sexxô is referred to as a taikô. The quampaku, on the other hand, was appointed by the Emperor or sexxô for a 5-year term, or until recalled by the Emperor.
