Theta Tau V was a planet located somewhere in the space of the galaxy's Alpha or Beta Quadrants, the fifth planet in orbit of the Theta Tau star system. A class M planet, Theta Tau V was considered for colonization by the Federation in the 2260s decade. This world was visited by a landing party from the starship USS Enterprise consisting of James T. Kirk, Spock, Leonard McCoy, and Hikaru Sulu. The team discovered plant and animal lifeforms which exhibited hyperaccelerated metabolism, as well as extreme and quickly changing weather patterns. Kirk was injured during the mission, but recovered with the care of Doctor McCoy. (TOS - Strange New Worlds II short story: "The Quick and the Dead")
