Organic farming was a specialized branch of agriculture which made use of more traditional and natural farming techniques rather than using artificial techniques such as chemical pesticides and fertilizers. The Armada, a farming colony on the Maltese asteroid belt, was Federation approved organic, with birds and insects introduced into the ecosystem to control infestation, and fertilized with pungent natural fertilizer.
