In 1918 PD, Glockauer held the rank of Kapitän der Sterne and was in command of the heavy cruiser IANS Gangying, which was on patrol in the Silesian Confederacy. When a Code Seventeen-Alpha distress signal from the passing freighter AMS Karawane caught his crew's interest, Kapitän Glockauer ordered the pursuit of the vessel, suspecting it to be taken over by pirates.
