The American firm of Garwood Industries (or Gar Wood Industries) Are (were ?) a supplier of winch units used in US Military vehicles. The company was founded by Garfield Wood as the Wood Hoist Co. and based in Detroit, Michigan USA. The company is also credited as build of the first 'packer' type refuse truck the "Garwood Load-Packer" in the 1930s. Mr Wood also held many speed records on water in the early 1900s till 1933. He sold the GarWood company in 1948. But the set up a new firm to build refuse trucks.
