Haliartos was a spring which the nymph called Telphousa lived. Apollo came across this spring while searching a place to found his shrine but Telphousa refused and tricked him to go to Delphi where the gigantic monster called Python lived. After Apollo killed the Python, he came back to Haliartos and covered the spring with rocks.
