The Sporterized Springfield M1903 and it's descendants have long been popular as the basis for custom hunting/target rifles. Famous gunsmith Reginald F. Sedgely and the sporting house of Griffin & Howe (in business since 1923) are two of the most well known makers, not to mention the thousands of self-taught hobbyists working in their basements and garages over the past one hundred years.
