Sonic and his friends are preparing for a race around the Green Hill Zone when Eggman arrives. He informs the group that he will become the ultimate racer and even outrace Sonic. Then he reveals his Booster Rollerblades and runs past the group. They realise that they need help to eventually stop Eggman winning. The player races against other characters to unlock them and build up themselves. They return to the Green Hill Zone to take on Eggman. They finally defeat him and race for fun afterwards. Major playable characters in story mode are Sonic, Tails, Knuckles and Amy whilst minor characters playable in story mode are Shadow, Rouge, Cream, Blaze and Silver.
