Stackhouse played only 13 games in the NHL (1921–22). However, he made that lone season count by helping the St. Pats defeat their PCHL rivals, the Vancouver Millionaires for the Stanley Cup. Prior to 1921 Stackhouse played amateur hockey for teams in his native Nova Scotia, including Acadia University. in 1922-23 he played for the Amherst Ramblers and Sydney Millionaires. Stackhouse was a referee from 1923 to 1926. From 1926 to 1928 Stackhouse played for the Providence Reds of the Canadian American Hockey League and the Nashua Nationals of the New England Hockey League. He retired in 1928.
