James is an innkeeper in Britain in Ultima VII. James was the dour-faced owner of the Wayfarer's Inn, who wished he had the opportunity to live a life of adventure instead of waiting upon customers. James had secretly always wanted to be a pirate and live in Buccaneer's Den, but only took the position as innkeeper to keep the business going after his father died. He was worried that now that he was married to Cynthia, he was more tied down than ever. Diane told the Avatar that she considers James a good friend, but said he wanted a life of adventure and was not happy.
