The Confederacy of Vulcan was the Vulcan state (ENT novel: Kobayashi Maru), and one of the five founding Federation member state (ST novel: Articles of the Federation.) Prior to the Founding of the Federation, the Confederacy was a major interstellar power throughout what later became the core Federation worlds, and participated in a long-standing rivalry with the Andorian Empire.
