The Japanese Teacher of English or JTE is (usually) the primary teacher in the English classroom. ALTs assist JTEs with their work. At Elementary school, "JTE" usually refers to the homeroom teacher, who may or may not speak English. At Junior and Senior High schools, "JTE" refers to a qualified English teacher.
