Competences are OFF's equivalent to functions such as special attacks, magical castings, power points, and so on that are typically found in other RPGs. They vary significantly in terms of power depending on the particular character and situation. These abilities generally have names directly connected to the being that uses them (the Batter's "Ultimate Homerun" ability being an example), and they also generally relate to one another in terms of a common theme (such as Japhet's competences relating to sound given how he is a songbird).
