2009 was Coronation Street's fiftieth year. Production during that year was overseen by producer Kim Crowther and executive producer Kieran Roberts. Events included the move of the weekly Wednesday episode to Thursday in July, the release of DVD spin-off Romanian Holiday in October, and the death of Blanche Hunt actress Maggie Jones in December. 260 new episodes were broadcast in 2009.
